I just went by the manual's suggestion. I roasted a pound of it, on P5, 
D++. According to the manual, if your voltage matches their tests, that 
will get you to second crack. If I recall correctly, I hit cool with 
about a minute left on it, and ended up at FC, my intended goal.
The coffee tasted wonderful, sweet. You might get a volt meter and test 
the outlet you plan to use, to see how it compares with the voltage used 
in the manual, that might give you an idea if you need to use more time 
or a different profile. I think if you're shooting for a FC+ or more, P5 
wouldn't be your profile. But, not sure I would want to take a Kona to 
that level myself, so P5 worked real well for me going by the book.

All I do is take a paper towel, and wipe out the insides as best I can. 
Attempt to clean out the oils. I'm sure I don't get it all, but it is 
easy and I've never noticed any transfers of flavors. Of course, those 
are good for about 5-10 uses before the zip-lock rips or something, so 
they get changed out regularly.
Been doing it that way going on 5 years now.
Oh, what I'm using are the 1# gift gold foil bags with the degassing 
valve on it. They aren't really vacuum bags, so maybe your referring to 
something else? I'm guessing not since I've not seen any vacuum bags 
from SM.
