There is a real simple meter that goes between the AC outlet and your
appliance that gives you the power consumption and voltage readout. It's
called "Kill a Watt" and is available from cyberguys.com and Edmund
Scientific. It will measure up to 125V and 25 Amps, so it should cover most
any appliance. There are two different versions, the less expensive once
costing about $20.
