I was just taking inventory and spring cleaning my coffee cupboard. Have decided to stay in stash reduction for another month. While cleaning I came upon a package of Sour Salt (Citric Acid). I realized I am overdue in de-scaling my espresso machine. So I am in the process of de-scaling as I type . Every year I forget when it's due and a discussion begins on the list and I realize that my machine is past due. So this year I figure it's my time to remind the list to descale if needed. My annual preventative descaling schedule has always been simple. Sometime just before the next PNWG. Same time new burrs. Have what I need to do it any time now, except the time:-) Pacific Northwest Gathering VIhttp://www.mcKonaKoffee.comURL to Rosto mods, FrankenFormer, some recipes etc:http://www.mckoffee.com/Ultimately the quest for Koffee Nirvana is a solitary path. Only thing I have ever been able to keep straight is my wedding anniversay. I got married in Reno on July 11th (7-11). I thought that descaling an HX is a task not for the average home barista but best left to the pros. (I did descale Silvia recently, though). S'pose depends on what level the bar is set for "average" home barista. If you spend much time on the H-B forum the bar can be quite high. Also depends on ones mechanical aptitude. I've completely descaled my Bric' inc. the steam boiler, HX, valves, group, 3-way twice no problems. S'pose also depends on what level the bar is set for "pros". I wouldn't trust some "pros" with any piece of equipment of mine, as I've a feeling your experiences bear out all too well. True--but as home baristi go I'm still low on the mechanical skills continuum; and I found a pro (Cora Italian Specialties, my machine's actual vendor) that knows what it's doing.
