Topic: Roaster by City (64 msgs / 1540 lines)
1) From: Jeff Jones

It would be cool to have a spreadsheet with everyone (who wanted to
participate), listed by City/State who is a Home Roaster. It may be fun
to hook up and have meet/greet as we all travel.
I started in Malibu, California 1992'ish, moved up to the Bay Area, now
living in Arkansas but moving to Chicago. :-) I saw that Sandy
Andina is in Chicago, which is what stemmed this thread.
Comments? Did I just volunteer? I'd like to hookup with like minded or
at least "like hobbiest" individuals. It would be cool to host the
spreadsheet on SM's site or SCCA's site.

We could make a Google Map specifically for the people on this list, and
allow everyone to add their own information.
Here's an example of how it might look-http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ieF&msa=0&msid3805607926076218082.00044e3c2d9fb3e0670c9Everyone could select the city or town that they live in, add their own
marker and include a short note about what they roast with, if there are
interested in having meetups, etc.

Map of Home Roasters. and I'm sure there would be a delta, of SM buyer
within ;-)
It's good to note, that not all home roasters are completely SM buyers.
I am, but I also have accounts with Holland, Royal and Montanos Bros in
the Bay Area, for the larger home roasting projects; or should I say,
charity events and investments.

I was going to also recommend frappr...and just commented that
baristaexchange has a very small homeroaster's group on their site.
Sorry if that was confusing. I did find the google map for the SM list
however, and having second thoughts about it, it's probably better to
preserve the small group here vs. putting everything out in the wide
open spaces of a large site like baristaexchange. Besides, I see much
more going on here than over at baristaexchange, so I mostly read this
list instead.

I suggested Barista Exchange was a good spot because the tool is developed
and someone is supporting it. Where ever you put the map, someone needs to
take care of it. However, there are only 11 home roasters out of 2407
members. Hardly home focused.
Do you want a home roaster map or an SM customer map? So, when you ask the
question "Why would home roaster be out of place?" I'm not certain which
group you mean. Both BE and SM are referenced. Just my two cents.
My perspective is this: I'd like to meet home roasters in my area, no matter
who they buy from.
Kewl discussions.
