Topic: Decaf for iced coffee (8 msgs / 138 lines)
1) From: Vicki Smith
I drink iced coffee this time of year--in fact, I drink enough of it
that I think decaf might be the way to go. Can anyone recommend a decaf
that will stand up to half and half, 'cause I like my hot coffee black,
but go with that in the iced variety.

The decaf sumatra lintong would do nicely.
I also really like the Costa Rica decaf, but I don't know how it
would stand up to being iced. My guess is well, but might be a little
too delicate/sweet for the milk treatment.
Decaf Donkey does nicely as a brewed coffee, and I'll bet it would be
good iced.

Vicki,
My first thought would be the Sumatra Lintong Nihuta KVW Decaf to FC+.
As I was typing this in, Allon's reply appeared, and it looks like we
are thinking the same thing.
I think I'll roast some up this evening and try it out. I'll need to
go buy some half and half, we don't keep it in the house any more
since I started home roasting.

Try the Komodo blend - it will take a pretty dark roast and goes wonderfully
with a little half and half. My wife and I often drink Vietnamese iced
coffee, though we find it easier to brew in a press or moka pot instead of
those funny little brewers they traditionally use. Roast it dark, brew it
strong, and some cream and ice and you'll love, assuming you like
Indonesian-style coffees.

All this talk has me slurping on a Sumatra Blue Batak, brewed strong
in an AP, sugared, a little vanilla and milk, then chilled (in a
metal container placed in a bath of ice) to reduce dilution, then
blended with ice.
Mmmm. Coffee slushee.
I wish I had an espresso machine at home, then I could REALLY do this
right.

I'm going to order the Komodo, I think. I make ice cubes out of the
beans I have set aside for iced coffee. Works for me ;).

I do pretty much the same thing in hot weather:
35 gm in the aeropress, press into just enough ice to chill, with a
teaspoon of sugar and few drops of vanilla, fill with milk very tasty!
I like to use Indonesians best. Of course they're my favorite coffees
anyway..
