Topic: For trade: Yemen and Ethiopian variety pack (17 msgs / 370 lines)
1) From: Ken B
Ok, I ordered a lot of Ethiopian and Yemen coffees based on reviews from
the list, and have decided that these are just not my favorite coffee.
Here is what I have:
1 lb 6 oz. of Yemen Mokha Mattari
1 lb 6 oz. of Yemen Mokha Ismaili
11 oz. of Yemen Mokha Sana'ani
1 lb of Yemen Mokha Sharashi
1 lb 5 oz. of Ethiopia Harar Horse, LOT 17406
1 lb Ethiopia Organic Limu - Indonesia Process
Total: approximately 6.75 lbs (weights are approximate, but are at or
over the stated weight)
I will trade this for 5 lbs of El Salvador Matalapa, Indonesia Flores
Jade, or ????.
Each person will pay freight to the other, UPS or FedEx ground. (NO USPS
please)
Since I have no way to collect $$$ from people, I would prefer a
straight trade, but I have no issue with someone buying the beans at SM
and shipping them straight to me.
Please contact me off list if you are interested.
And before anyone chides me for giving up too easily, I DID roast a
number of these at different levels. I just did not care for them as
much as the ones I really like, and to paraphrase one lister, life's to
short to drink coffee that just does not wow you! ;-) They are not bad,
just not my favorites.
Best Regards,
Ken B

2) From: Ken B
Hmmm, I really thought that someone would jump on this, 6.75-7 lbs of
Yemen and Ethiopian for the price of 5 lbs of Indonesia Flores Jade
(preferred) or El Salvador Matalapa (I have 7 lbs of the Matalapa on
hand).
I wish there were a place to donate it if nobody wants it. It would
seem a shame to throw it out, but I do not have the time to roast it all
up to give away. I guess I could do a tradition with it, but I just
gave away a Fresh Roast and a bunch of beans, so wanted to try to at
least recoup a bit of my favorite coffees in return.
Oh well...if any of you have ideas on what to do with this, please feel
free to speak up.
Best Regards,
Ken B

3) From: John Mac
Ken,
I'd give it some time. Wait for Tom to sell out of all those varieties and
then offer them again.
It's not like the beans will go bad if properly stored for a month.
Cheers,
John

4) From: Gary Foster
Ken,
Sorry you didn't get any bites on this but FWIW, I personally didn't
care for the Limu at all myself, and the only one of the bunch I was
interested in was the harrar. I didn't think it'd be worth the hassle
of a trade for a lb of coffee, so I didn't speak up.
You might try posting on the GCBC website and see if you get some
takers there instead, that's the best advice I can offer! HTH!

Thanks Gary,
I guess if nobody here is interested in trading, I will just give it to
someone that wants it. It would make an interesting stash for someone
who liked the Yemen and Ethiopian coffees, but maybe could not afford to
stock a lot of it. We will see.
Best Regards,
Ken B

why I didn't reply.

I also love the Ethiopian and Yemen, but I don't have the coffees you were
interested in. That is why I didn't reply either.

Heh, thanks ladies. I appreciate you letting me know that you read the
message.
I am also looking for a "travel kit", a small plastic or stainless FP or
pour-over and small hot pot. I could also use Chemex filters and the
like. Got anything like that to trade?
Best Regards,
Ken B

10) From: John Despres
Ken, I'll make the trade. I'll have to order what you like from SM. I
have the Yemens in my stash and since I like them all, I'll bite. My
real interest is the Horse Lot 17406. Haven't had that or the Limu, but
I'll give it a shot.
Let's connect off-list and make a deal!

Thanks John,
You have email. I actually would rather have the Flores Jade than the
travel kit, but was trying to be creative. :-)
So folks, I am accepting John's offer. Thank you for your interest. :-)

Hi Peter,
If John had not followed your message immediately with an offer for the
Flores Jade, I would have accepted the SS FP. ;-) However, I don't need
it until October, so I will get it sometime in September, unless you
feel like selling yours?
Best Regards,

Ken,
You can add my ditto marks to this. My guess is that if you had
listed some coffees you like and said "make me a trade offer" you
would have gotten several acceptable and interesting offers.
