Topic: Moka pot club, (4 msgs / 75 lines)

It's very simple. There was an Italian at work who had an electric moka
pot. Every afternoon, around 4, he'd brew up a pot and several of us would
assemble, drink a small cup and chat. People would periodically bring in
coffee for the pot. When it was discovered that I was a homeroaster, I was
invited to join. Even though my Italian friend has moved on to a new
company, the moka pot club has continued. It is a wonderful pick me up to
get through the last hour(s) of work.
I like to bring coffees like IMV, due to the "wow" factor. :)

Seth,
That sounds really fun. The people in my work group get along pretty
well, but we don't have that sort of camaraderie. Yet..... Hmmmm...
Did your Italian friend leave the electric moka pot, or did your group
need to acquire a new one?

Actually, he bought a new one and left it with us. He had been "seasoning"
his moka pot for years and didn't want to lose that. I've found the recent
discussion on "seasoning" of coffee equipment quite humorous.
I think the thing that made the moka pot club work for us is that, for most
americans, moka is funky and new, and an electric moka pot is easy enough to
maintain at the office.
And before anyone asks, the current moka pot master does, in fact, wash it
out. :)

I had a professor in college who had an electric moka pot which he kept in
his office. We would often do the same thing... a cup of coffee on Friday
afternoons after class.
He retired a couple years ago, but I had been sending him home roasted
coffee for a number of years and sent him some for Christmas last year as
well.
cheers,
Scott
