Question for those who developed the 300-325f/5min patterns: It takes about
2 minutes for the GF to reach 300-325f. Are you counting this time before
counting against the 5 minutes @ 300?

Hi, Morris,
I start my timer as soon as I start the GC. When the timer goes off I crank up the temp to 425 for another 5 minutes.
When that goes off I crank the temp all the way to 482. As soon as I hear first crack going on (about 460 or so in my
machine) I'll drop the temp down to 460 or maybe a little below to slow it down.
Shooting an IR gun at the rotating drum on the GC shows the external temp of the drum about 50 degrees lower than what
the digital readout shows. The actual temperature of the beans is somewhere in between those two temperatures.

Oh, the timer doesn't stop the roast. *I* stop the roast. I just
use the countdown timer as an easy access timer.

Hi, Steven.
Yeah, I know. I was grumpy this morning. I was looking at a 14 hour work
day that just ended. Loaded two 53 foot semis with scenery aided by
student labor (simply awesome kids, it turns out) and then went on to
another 7 hours of volunteer work for the country's largest all
volunteer arts festival. And I still have a couple roasts to do, yet -
the best part of my day!
The backwards timer just doesn't make sense to my brain toward a count
of elapsed time. I used it for a while before getting out my stopwatch
at which point I became happy.
