Topic: Roast Question for India Anohki Coffee, (Liberica) (23 lines)

Dave-
I am sure Les will answer this as well, but it is worth getting two opinions (especially as we basically agree).
Yes, stretch it out a bit longer. My Behmor runs really slow, and does not reach first crack for 1/2 lb until around 12-13 minutes (I absolutely have to use the 1 lb setting for a 1/2 lb). This is not great for all coffees, but it is great for Liberica. What I do is set it to P1, and slow the roast when first crack seems to be winding down by opening the door. With a heat gun the same effect is easily possible as you know. I get no more barnyard in my Liberica than I do in the fantastic Harrar I am drinking as I type this (My liberica roasts taste a lot like a good harrar, actually-and Tom got us a real winner Harrar this year).
That said, I made a few batches in a popcorn popper to see what would happen, and there I hit first crack at 7 minutes and it was still excellent, but not as good as the Behmor slower version.
BTW,(for all you Behmor users) the door opening to slow down the roast is the method I prefer with the Behmor. Then I can always use P1 and control things without having to do any math. I have not blown a roast since I started this method.

One quick question: With the HG I tend to hit first crack at 6 or 7
minutes. Would it be better to stretch it out a little longer, or does
the ramping time to first crack not make that much difference?
