Topic: Panama Gesha for $15 a cup; (4 msgs / 101 lines)

I assume its from the Clover, and stumptown sold all theirs to
Intelligentsia in protest of the fact that clover was sold to
starbucks. So maybe the storys is dated? In that case, it makes sense
there are only 8 cups per half pound.
I have some ideas for how we can offer our incredibly expensive Batch
2 esmeralda (Includinng 1/2 lbs of the other 2 Esmeralda batches so
people can practice roasting it, and including a non-gesha top panama
for cupping comparison ... and i think maybe a roasted sample to
show the target color. ) Plus we will gas-flush vacuum pack in single
roast amounts so it can be saved, i.e. for Christmas.
And in case you didn't see, we formed a group with Stumptown, Kentaro
Maruyama and his buyers to get the #1 Guatemala Cup of excellence
lot, which is very much a batch 2 esmeralda gesha level of coffee,
but is in fact the El Injerto Pacamara. The finish price, just north
of $80/Lb. Ouch! Double Ouch! We'll try to figure out a similar
approach as the $100+ Esmeralda to make sure people get out of it
what they should at that price level. It will be interesting.
I also aim on donating all profits to a program that helps small
farmers. I mean, I think it's great coffee gets these prices. And I
feel strongly that the "higher prices for quality" model helps all
farmers, showing a way out of the commodity price-level, go-nowhere
treadmill that farmers find themselves trapped in when their coffee
is not as good as it could be. But still, the fact that these two
farms get this windfall, while struggling small farms who are trying
to improve quality do not, doesn't make me completely comfortable.
Putting profits from these 2 lots back into shared farmer resources
is ideal. I just need to find the program that best suits that
description.

The story was about River Maiden in Vancouver WA not Stumptown. They did get
both their Clover and Esmeralda from Stumptown and Wayne got in the video
too...

I am ready to order mine...nothing too fancy, but perhaps five pounds of
each of the two lower level geshas and I love the idea of packaged high end
single roast amounts. My wife will be angry...but hey...I'm the one bring
home the dough (is that insensitive? just a joke...not really?! ha ha).

miKe,
I think I'm mixing stories. The one I saw on last night's news was
definitely Stumptown, as they showed the outside of the store and called
them out by name.
