Topic: Meno Misty Valley (10 msgs / 215 lines)
1) From: Rick Copple
I mentioned this one on another tread, but it was a dying thread with a
subject that didn't directly relate and no many have missed it.
But, I wanted to mention how wonderful the Meno Misty Valley is. I
roasted this Saturday afternoon, and have been enjoying it. I wish I
could get 20# of this one, it's that good.
The orange, well, its really there in a great way. My son who often
drinks my coffee got a cup of it this morning. He tends to just "Yeah,
that was good" to my coffees. He doesn't pick up much of the flavors, I
usually point them out to him and he nods that he can taste that once
I've mentioned it.
Today, though, he took a sip and said to me, "This is fruity!" And
indeed, you can't miss the fruit in here. Actually, the flavor reminds
me of orange sherbet. It's not the sharpness of sherbet, but the quality
of the flavor is there. Like a find chocolate-orange candy. A most
unique flavor!
And is this coffee smooth! Probably the smoothest coffee I've had. The
body is rich, and creamy. Like a good single-malt scotch of which the
finish has that added taste to it. And the sweetness is great. No one
would need sugar in this, it has enough natural sugar.
I would encourage anyone to get at least a pound of it. You won't find a
coffee like this anywhere else. Thanks, Tom, for another great experience.

Alas, I pulled the trigger too late. I ~thought I snagged the last
pound early this morning, then had an email from Maria stating that
there was none left. C'est la vie.

Well I'm glad I didn't wait then... whew. I grabbed a 2lb'er and am getting ready to do a "shootout" between the Menno's and some Bagersh (sp?) that I still have. IMV (older) is my favorite coffee to date, so I think I'm going to have to do some very very extensive testing... lots of extra samples and tests... heh...

There's going to be other naturals of this quality, but the really
good microlots we have are coming quite late in the season. If I
think one of these is like the MMV I will make sure to reference it...

Tom,
Thank you for bringing in the Micro Lots. I know that it is a lot of work
for you. For those who are crying that you missed out, take note, Tom does
limit these offers so they do get spread around. You have to jump on them
if it is something you think you will like. I still can't believe that when
I order today, there will be some Liberica left. Everyone seems to be after
the "Blueberry" in the Misty Valley coffees and the Harar, and here sits the
ultimate "Blueberry" coffee that should have sold out before Christmas last
year. There are some real "sleepers" on the list that are still around too,
The Bali and the Sumatra Blue Batak just to name two. The Guatemala Organic
Finca Ceylan Maragogype that I am drinking this morning is stunning. It
begins with a nice clear coffee note that fills the mouth, opening to a nice
spicy vanilla that finishes with a hint of tobacco followed by a nice bitter
sweet chocolate aftertaste They don't get much better than this.
Besides roasting up these monster size beans is just plain fun! So jump on
those micro lots. I remember a few years ago, Tom offered a bean to the SM
list readers and it never did make the offering sheet. I have seen micro
lots go out in a day. Now that I have 6 pounds of Liberica in the stash, go
ahead and buy Tom out. Remember that every coffee on this list is a great
coffee that has been cupped and judged before it is offered to you. You
won't find that any place else. Again, Thanks Tom for roasting and cupping
hundreds and hundreds of coffees to bring us the best. We are spoiled
coffee snobs.

Whew, glad I jumped on it when I did. It sounded too good and I had a
feeling I didn't want to miss out on it, so I grabbed some. On a hunch I
got a 5er. Glad I did.
But now I feel bad for making everyone want it right as it ran out.
Alas, I spoke up a tad too late. Sorry about that!
I know how it feels having missed out on the super blueberry Harrar a
couple years ago. Lot 30 I think it was.

The way Tom is bringing them so fast, I don't see how anyone can get in on
all the gems. That is why I have tried to discern what my absolute "must
haves" are going to be, and then hope that some of the others are still
there when the stash permits. Last year I said no Costa Rican coffees, then
he does this micro lot thing this year and blows that right out of the
water! I have been trying to limit the Brazil coffees and then he brings
in some specials there. I am enjoying the "Bird" coffee this morning. So
it is the kind of probem we all like to have. Right?

I think the refrain here is...it's all Tom's fault.
Well, that's close at least. I was saying the same thing to the Counter
Culture folks at today's cupping--they were one of my intros to the
rabbit hole of specialty coffee. Then there's the importers...
