Topic: Anyone have some Menno's Misty Valley to trade? (2 msgs / 66 lines)
1) From: Scott Bukofsky
This stuff went fast! Anyone have a pound they can part with? I might be
able to find something interesting in trade. E-mail me off list if you are
interested.
Thanks!

Sorry to hijack your thread, but this was the closest to "On topic" that I could find and if I try to start a new thread or change the name of a thread for some reason my posts don't get to the list. I don't get it either and we have tried to fix the problem to no avail. If I just reply, it works fine, if I attempt to have a different subject line, there is nothing. Could someone change the subject line to reflect what this is actually about for me? I would appreciate it. Something like "Menno's vs Bagersh cupping" or something like that would make sense.
BTW, I have 1lb remaining and um... it's really really good. Bwah ha ha. Mine! All mine! Haha. Just kidding, but seriously, it's staying in the stash. Sorry...
Moving right along: I said that I was going to report on comparative cupping between Menno's IMV and Bagersh IMV. Well here is what I've got:
Surprising results for me. Not at all what I expected.
IMV and MMV roasted on Sunday (44 hours ago)
Both roasted to city/city+
Both rested in mason jars in a cupboard
12 glasses altogether, table set up with a sample set (3 cups) at 12:00, 3:00, 6:00 and 9:00.
Prepared all samples and then had a friend come in and move the cups all around so that my cupping would be blind.
Results: (BTW, 12=1, 3=2, 6=3, 9=4)
Immediately knew that 12 (1) and 6 (3) were the same and that 3 (2) and 9 (4) were the same.
Dry Fragrance: 12,6- Lemon rind, blueberry, cocoa (think Hershey's kiss);; 3,9- Orange Blossom Honey, subtle floral, slight cocoa, plum
Aroma: 12,6- Orange citrus, very intense and potent;; 3,9- mango jam, peach, floral
Acidity: 12,6- High, aggressive, bright, (wow...);; 3,9- Balanced, high but not as high as other samples
Flavor: 12,6- Concord grape, citrus (orange/mango), rose, nice balance;; 3,9- semi-sweet cocoa (Hersey's syrup), mango
Mouthfeel: 12,6- Dry (whew!), light, snappy;; 3,9- Creamy, balanced, flavors are very balanced and not one dominating another
Aftertaste: 12,6- Short, clean, subtle;; 3,9- Orange, peach
Overall Notes: 12,6- Intense, sharp, bright and aggressive.;; 3,9- More subtle, more rustic, not as intense and a little more creamy than the 12 and 6 samples.
Final scores: 12,6- 88.5;; 3,9- 89.0
What coffee is what? Samples at 12 and 6 were Menno's Misty Valley, samples at 3 and 9 were Bagersh Misty Valley.
So there you have it. The whole time I had the coffees backwards in my mind. I thought I pretty much had it figured out as to which was which and to my surprise I actually had them backwards! Menno's is amazing. Ran some through the Yama tonight. I think I might have used too much coffee, and I didn't pull the flavors I thought I would, but tomorrow I'll try it through the Chemex and see how that goes. Great cup never-the-less.
