Topic: Dead River Roasters? (8 msgs / 139 lines)
1) From: Christina Bohnhoff
I've been away from the list for a while, so I apologize if this has
been mentioned.
Has Dead River Coffee in Marquette closed? Maybe just moved?
My mother, who lives near Marquette, was in town today & was going to
pick up some coffee.
She said they weren't there anymore! And no sign to explain the absence.
Any news?

WHAT???? That would be such a HUGE loss! I'm not going up to
Marquette this year to do the Hiawatha Festival (have to stay closer
to home due to high gas prices, eldercare demands and saving my
pennies for recording with my other band and co-writing in
Nashville ), but I'll ask my singing partner Susan--who is going as
part of her other band--to investigate. Their espresso-bar kiosk was
my home away from home at Hiawatha; Marquette was one of the few
places I could go play without having to bring my own homeroast--I'd
always stop at Dead River for some freshly roasted beans and extra
filters.
They were (hopefully still are but just moved out of downtown) one of
the best small-volume roasters ANYWHERE.

OK, I don't know why I just didn't try calling their phone number, but
I did today & they answered.
So maybe they just had to step away from the shop for a while. I
didn't quiz my mom to see if the shop actually looked empty of
fixtures or not. So I still don't know if they were just not open or
if they moved!
But they are still around anyway!!!
Sorry for the false alarm!

According to one of my friends on LiveJournal, it still exists, but
they moved from Washington Street to another location.

Big "whew!" There had been times early on I hadn't been able to find
them--they share a storefront space (one deep window and narrow inner
store on either side of a mini-"courtyard") with another shop (comic
books or some such), do not have much of a sign or a marquee, and are
not brightly lit inside, so they're easy to miss if you don't know
what you're looking for. Sometimes they can appear closed when you do
find them, even when they're very much open. Just have to look a
little harder---seek and ye shall find, perseverance shall be rewarded.
