I've been using the Fresh Roast for about 3 months and am happy with it. a
few caveats. I used to savor deep French roasts, which this roaster will not
do without tinkering or work. It definitely is more at home with city, full
city, and Vienna roasts and for those roasts I think it does well.
Accordingly I have changed my coffee tastes to enjoy lighter roasts, which
do give more varietal flavor any way.
Compared to buying roasted beans you will really enjoy the flavors even if
the roasts are not perfect. Because it is cheap, quiet, and quite manual the
fresh roast is a great first roaster. You can watch, smell, and, especially,
listen and experiment with different roasts and varieties. The volume of
coffee is small (just under 3 oz) so I roast every day or two. I bought an
extra chamber so I can easily do 2 batches, back to back. Since I am the
only coffee drinker this quantity and frequency are fine.
If you are hooked on oil covered, deep French roasts or if you drink a lot
of coffee look elsewhere but otherwise, I recommend it.
