I use the cloth filters in my KMB. I just rinse them in hot water. When
I am cleaning the glass pot (using PH+ pool cleaner and a drop of dish
washing soap) I soak my filter. I use one filter a week, save them, and
then once a month put the four or so filters through the washing machine
in a lingerie bag with a load of laundry. They aren't pristine, by any
means, but they don't seem to pass on any nasty flavours either.

Try the Oxy-clean soak. They come out pristine.

Interesting, thanks!. I had not heard of OxiClean.
WikiPediastates that it is
marketed through infomercials, which might explain. So, I
see that there are half a dozen presentations of
OxiClean.
Which one is being recommended for this use?

Paul,
I use the laundry powder which you can get in most supermarkets, hardware
etc these days.
