Topic: restrictions on shipping green coffee to Hawaii - (4 msgs / 135 lines)
1) From: Morris Nelson
The letter may be from a bureaucrat with too much spare time.
Having talked in great length with a member of the USDA this summer
specifically about moving unroasted coffee across borders, all unroasted
coffee entering the US is subject to an "insect killing" process. Chances
are high that the beans are already already done when entering the USA.
Suggested solution is to get the fumigation certification received while
importing the unroasted beans and make it publically available to HI buyers.
NO other steps needed. Problem solved.
Alternatives are being sought to the use of MB...

I would suspect that the green beans are quietly slipped through a high
flux gamma irradiator. Its fast, efficient and leaves no strange artifacts.
And I agree with you, this sounds suspiciously like a lower level
bureaucrat with nothing constructive to do.

No strange artifacts, until the coffee gets angry and turns into the Hulk!
