Topic: i-Roast failure (4 msgs / 68 lines)
1) From: John M. Howison
This morning, after roasting on Preset 2 for about 2 minutes, I pulled the
plug on my i-Roast for about 15 seconds to slow down the process. When I
replugged, the heat came back on, but the fan did not. Even if it had been
possible to replace the fan unit, I expect that the undistributed heat would
have destroyed that unit within the few seconds before I again pulled the
plug. I had followed this procedure perhaps a half dozen times.
Before ordering a replacement, I would like expert advice. My Ir2 had not
been used for more than 50 roasts at the outside, perhaps as little as half
that. Did I in my ignorance destroy a good machine by my procedure, of did
I happen to have a lemon?

The iRoast2 uses a SCR, I think, to control the fan speed. It's
possible you zorched it.
If you do end up chucking the unit, you could always chuck it my way ;)

I think your procedure doomed it to an eventual death.
Hearthware's service is not horrible, you should call them and talk about
getting service/replacement.
Rather than unplug it to slow the roast, pop the chaff holder top part loose
and let it float in the air. It slows the roast by limiting the heat buildup
in the chamber.

If I was going to purchase a new roaster for use inside. (I have a
Iroast2, but roast outside 98% of the time) I would get a Bhemor. It
has a number of advantages over the Iroast for only about another
$100. SM sells them both last I looked.
