Topic: The Major is Dead! (18 msgs / 297 lines)
1) From: Les
Well the Mazzer Major isn't totally dead, but mortally wounded. While
moving from the truck to the church kitchen today, I slipped and dropped the
Major and ruined the head and carrier as it took a blow on the concrete. I
ran home and got the Troser and with the help of two other people I was able
to get enough coffee ground for 30 shots. Not sure what I am going to do
next.

That's horrible news!
And also, if this was your concrete you probably have a giant chunk of that missing that you have to replace now too. If you need a loaner for a while let me know off list and I can get some sort of 'spro grinder out to you for a while. I've got a couple sitting around (not at the same level as the Major, but they surely get the job done).
What a disappointing way to start the week! Sorry to hear it.

The top carrier and the collar? I have a top carrier that's good but
not the collar.

Exactly which feature of the Major made you think it was Portable- the
wheels? The tactical model has a pintle hook. Mine lacks these, and it's no
more portable than the original Amana Radar Range.
No wheels on the Mahlkoenigs either...

I am enjoying an nice cup of Zass ground coffee this morning. I ruined the
top carrier and the collar. I was hoping I could at least grind with it at
my drip setting, but it took out the threads and the burrs are jammed
together. Thanks for sharing my pain on the list. This has been a very
nice grinder for me.

Oh Les, I am so sorry!
I know exactly how you must feel. A couple of years ago I dropped my
Mazzer Mini.
Fortunately it only hit an oak cabinet door (not concrete!) and bent the
doser.
The oak door was destroyed, but the Mini still grinds fine, although I
have been unable to straighten the doser to my satisfaction.
Best,
PeterZ

Years ago when I built a workbench, I was told it had to be portable.
Wanting something stout, and being in a hurry, I took a 4x8 sheet of 3/4
steel, and welded on 4" schedule 40 legs. I used a torch to burn a little
hole through the top and put a loop of cable through that. Then the bench
was easily portable, either with a crane or a forklift. Sometimes I miss
that bench...
