Help me, Masters. I am failing.
I love my Behmor and BehmorThing. But I don't use them side by side with
laptop since I roast outside. I take notes on paper and then transfer to BT.
I have good consistent voltage.
So here's how my latest roast went. Where did I go wrong?
On 6/15 I roasted 8oz of the delicious Columbia Huila Finca Buenavista. It
was 91F, humid as usual.
I set the B16 to 1#, P1, took it down to 15:00 for no good reason (IIRC) and
hit start as I yelled "Fire in the hole!"
My notes say "great aroma. rolling 1sts @ -2:15, mostly done -1:00, add :15,
1 or 2nd snaps, runs to cool".
Amazingly close. I didn't make notes on my enjoyment but I remember it did
not get much rest, it was gone very quick.
So today I look at my previous notes (mostly on paper still, but trying to
get them into BehmorThing) and try to gauge where I want the P2 dip to go--
not having much luck with that yet but Thing definitely helps! I have 8.1oz
of CHFBV left (thanks Tom, btw!). Today's conditions are virtually
identical-- it's down to about 91 (was like 99 earlier) and very sticky.
So it would appear that 1sts started rolling at 12:45 into the roast. So
using BehmorThing I calculate using 1#, P2, that I need to increase time to
21:45 to have the power drop at 13:03 which is 8:42 remaining on the clock.
I should be just hitting rolling 1st snap and heat should drop off.
However... I get a few snaps at -8:50 but just a few. Then nothing until
7:45, then quite a few at 7:20 so that I thought it was about to start
rolling but nothing came of it. Just a few here and there until the 2nd
snaps start and go immediately into rolling at 4:10 on the shot clock. I hit
cool about 4:00-- further into 2nd's than I wanted but I don't like grassy
coffee so I want to make sure they are all through first snap.
It's definitely FC++/Vienna.
