I have run into this problem a lot. Some folks think good coffee smells
like a perfume factory.
You can buy food grade coffee flavorings to mix with roasted beans. There
are dozens of flavors. You add a tablespoon to certain quanity of beans and
agitate to distribute.
I never drink "Fu Fu" coffee, but to some people that's all they will drink.
And they are so conditioned to think coffee beans must smell like "hazelnut"
or "Vanilla Truffle Cheesecake Shazamm" that they think the stuff I roast
smells flat.
I recently visited a big specialty grocery store with two couples. Arriving
at the coffee section, 25 barrels of coffee covered with plexiglass lids
greeted us. Everyone sniffed the flavors: orange, coconut, southern pecan,
yada yada yada. Eurekas of "Ooohhs and Aaahhhs" and "Wow, Try this one!"
erupted from everywhere as people sniffed. Everybody but me bought a scoop
of their favorite aroma. I didn't have the heart disrupt their aroma-blast
and tell them its all synthetic artificial flavor to cover up low quality
dirt-cheap coffee (selling for 9.99/lb). But they wouldn't have cared
anyway.
They know I'm a coffee snob, so I just sniffed and said "mmm," the way a
parent acts impressed when their 3 year old shows them a little wildflower.
It falls into the category of "Dude, whatever floats your boat, man, ya
know."
If I ever give someone flavored coffee, I will probably roast a decent, but
inexpensive bean (a Central) to FC+ and dump on the synthetic flavoring oil.
I'm sure you guys with shops deal with this everyday.

How do you "Gift" a flavored coffee drinker? Could be difficult. I'm
pretty sure nobody on this list would want one.
