Just bean munched from my third roast of Auction Lot 5, most promising so
far. Reduced finish temp my CCR HT from last batches 436f to 432f to
accentuate acidity a bit more. Also shortened start of 1st to EOR by 30
seconds to ~3:30, total actual roast time was 15:32. I may have this sucker
nailed, the next week to 10 days cups will tell for sure! FWIW my CCR HT
start of 1st ~394f @ ~12min, ~5 min drying/pre-tanning stage to 300f.

MiKe So did you have about 7mins from 300f to start of first. Jim
Shulman has been encouraging me to shorten this stage a bit. I'm
usually about where you are 6-7min. He says will add sweetness and
subtract a bit of woodiness. Any thoughts? I did try 2 Costa Rica
roasts and did prefer the shorter mid leg.Picked up most of the time
between 300-350 then leveled out.
cheers,
Ed

Ed,
Different Mike here. I went down to 5:00 minutes between 310 and 400
a while back, linear heat up rate. I've been using this leg for all
my roasts and it seems to me to be a subtle change that would support
Jims appraisal. I had been using 7:00 minutes between 300 and 400.

I don't disagree. Thanks for knocking me up side the head. WAKE UP!!! I'd
like to get my 300 to 394f stage back up around 20f/min ramp instead of
current more like 13.29f actual. Hell I know this from years ago comparing
ramp rates and resulting cups Rosto roasting!
Correction: I think I've got it nailed running the CCR HT with 274gr batch
non boosted line voltage fully automated not manually toggling fan on/off.
Unfortunately last couple weeks currently not running through Frankie, my
running TWO CCR HT's concurrently boosted voltage via Frankie for a number
of months kinda sorta fried some of the switches so sometimes cuts out
deader than a door nail, of course mid roast not good! Toggle the main
switch and it'll give the go juice again. Haven't had time to source and
replace them.
Jeeze, I be way too fried myself...
