Spartanburg? The last time I was there I was told Spartanburg county grows more peaches than the whole state of Georgia. Don't know about that, but there were lots of peaches and they were good!

Since you live in Georgia, you would understand the difference between a
tree ripened peach and what we get in supermarkets too. :-) (Good
peaches in S. Carolina at the N. Carolina line too when they are in
season...forget the name of the little town, but their water tower is a
peach)

Gaffney...I had to stop and remember it. ;-)http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=peach+water+tower+Gaffney+South+Carolina&ieF8&ll5.114643,-81.66069&spn=0.034894,0.073643&z&iwloc=Ahttp://www.gaffney-sc.com/Waterpeach.htm
the towns water tower is a large peach, and they have a lot of peach
orchids there. And yes, it is my understanding that Georgia does trail
SC in peach production. From the web: "As of 2007, peaches are
commercially produced in 25 U.S. states. Historically, the top three
states in peach production are California, South Carolina and Georgia."

And when you are driving through SC on either I-26 or I-85, a good stopping
place is Abbotts Farms:http://abbottfarmsonline.com/Fresh peaches and other produce... RC Cola and Cheerwine (retro recipe made
with cane sugar) in glass bottles for a tasty soda.
cheers,
Scott
