I'm encountering something odd roasting Koratie WP in the IR2. And I really
need to get this roast right since I have lots of this bean.
On each of three batches, fast roast color happened: the roast color at the
end of first crack (about 410F on my thermo) looks like FC. I'm aiming for
C, but C color passes somewhere early in first crack. I noticed that this
bean's outliers come very early too. This time the first outlier popped at
355F !! By 365F first crack was rolling nicely. C hit around 385F, but there
were lots of cracks, which didn't stop until 405-410F. I hit cool, and
shazam FC color again. Usually, FC is on up around 435, and a fair minute
after first crack trails off.
Anybody else getting anomalies like this? What should I do to get C? Could
this be to bean density since this is pretty high grown?
