Someone has offered me a Bunn Professional Grinder from a store he owned.
But I already have a Maestro Classic. I am not sure how old the Bunn is,
might be quite old. I don't drink too much espresso though I have just
begun to use a fine grind on the maestro Classic for a Mocha Pot that I
recently bought. Is it worth taking the Bunn Grinder? Probably will take up
more space in my house?
Also, this morning I broke the Carafe for my Presto Scandinavian. Does
anyone know where I can get another one or if the carafe from another
machine will work?
Since the Scandinavian is a couple of years old and reputed not to be made
like a Technivorm I have been planning for the day of its demise anyway.
Recently I acquired a Zojurishi kettle and am waiting for the electrical
cord for it to arrive from the manufacturer. Since a Technivorm is a
little beyond my budget (around $125) I plan to go to pour over drip into a
thermal caraffe. Another possibility was getting an inexpensive automatic
drip maker and filling it with the hot water from the kettle when I want to
make coffee. I think this was mentioned on the list at one time, but not
much discussed. But I wonder if, since most machines are plastic, the
boiling water would melt the chamber in to which you pour it or if the taste
of the water would be affected by the plastic.

A Newco OCS 8 coffee maker would be within your budget, and is spoken of
quite favorably by those that own them. I am looking to get one next month
as an alternative to the excellent but uber expensive Technivorm. Not so
pretty as other machines, but I am all about function before form.

If you're thinking of the Bunn for espresso use fogetaboutit. It's a bulk
grinder, adjustability not suited for espresso at all.

The Bunn grinders are burr grinders suited to public grocery store use.
Their best use is in pairs near the staling bins; one for flavored coffee,
the other for unflavored only. For reasons I need not elaborate, it's
probably not the best arrangement. Everyone needs a grinder with 8 or 10
settings -ro
