Got home from my weekend trip and decided it was time to roast some
more Monkey Blend. But first I wanted to get that badly darkened area
(supposedly) concealing the sensor down to bare metal as best I could.
Went to the city's biggest Whole Foods--surely they'd carry Simple
Green or Orange Clean, right? Nope. Closest I could come was Seventh
Generation with orange oil, and Bon Ami "Free" (no scent or fumes,
"cleans without scratching"). Stood the roaster on end for better
visibility (had to unplug it, so the interior light was not an
option). Wet a paper towel, sprayed the Seventh Gen., on it, scrubbed--
nada. Sprayed some directly on the darkened metal, waited. A little
bit dissolved. Sprinkled some Bon Ami on the wet towel, smeared it on
the dark area and waited. Began to work a little. Repeated the
process as much as I could stand, then wet-wiped, sponged, wet-wiped
again, till I got it as clean as it would get (pretty darn clean, but
not perfect--there's a tiny unreachable area just next to and above
the upper element but I got the prescribed area down to bare metal, as
shiny as it had originally been). Once satisfied all was free of
residue and thoroughly dry, loaded the drum and the chaff collector
and did a 1/2 lb. cleaning cycle, without a hitch. Plugged it in,
loaded up 12 oz. of Monkey and hit 1, P2 B. Beans barely begun to
yellow (about 12 min. to go) when the drum slowed and then stopped--
and on came the dreaded "Err 6." Unplugged, waited 2 min. Hit 1, got
the 18:00 readout, hit "start" and nothing happened. It's been about
15 min. now. Last time that happened, I was able to restart it. Will
carry it over to the stove so I can roast w/o an extension cord (I'm
thinking maybe we had another rolling brownout--it's been warm and
electricity's been in demand with everyone cranking their A/Cs. WIsh
me luck--I have now been up 22 hrs.!

Call Joe Behm on the error thing. I'm actually surprised the roaster
started again so soon - it's designed, far as I can tell, to not
restart if it's too hot (keeps you from burning your coffee, your
kitchen, etc)
