So I went back to my Behmor, hit 1 then Start. Heard the motor try to
run, saw the countdown start, but the drum didn't seem to turn. So on
a hunch I hit Cool and it turned. Turned it off, then again hit 1
then Start. First crack began at about 3:20 left to go, distinct but
sparse. The cracks began to accelerate at about 1:15, but were still
loud and sharp--not yet second crack. So I added the max time, so the
readout read 3:00. The cracks were rapid, but definitely sounded like
first. At about :50 left, they got a little softer (but not as soft as
I remembered second crack to be). Smelled like it was about FC.
Nonetheless, I counted to 10 and hit Cool, and peeked after 10
seconds--darkish, chaff flying, but definitely no darker than FC (if
that dark). It's cooling now. As I've now been up 23 hrs, I'll let it
keep cooling and head off to sleep. When I waken at the crack of noon
(being a working musician and a retired lawyer does have its
perks...er, presses.....drips....never mind) my housekeeper will have
turned my espresso machine on. I now have enough of the last batch of
Monkey to get me through till this one outgasses.
I think if I just stick to 1 lb P1 for 12 oz. or 1/2 lb. for 6, I
think I'll be fine. It's when I start to mess with profiles and
programs that things go a little blooey. Still used the extension
cord, as the roaster and the board I must use to keep it level (only
way I can put it on the stove near the outlet) are heavy and awkward
and I'm a klutz.
