Topic: Email delivery test (19 msgs / 391 lines)

This is a test email. My messages have been taking up to 3 days to get delivered. Apparently others have had similar problems. I contacted Apple and they've added this list server to their "white list". This is a test to see if it worked. If not, the problem may be on the list server end.

I have had a similar problem from multiple servers. I have not been  
able to track it to any one cause.

there's a long delay between the time dreamhost is getting the message
and MailMan (the list software) is approving it. Maybe dreamhosts'
mailman server is under a lot of load and is performing slowly?
I assume this list is hosted at dreamhost?

Thanks for the responses. This was an improvement since it took about  
45 minutes instead of a day or three. Apple said it shouldn't take  
longer than 15 minutes if everything is working properly--including  
all their junk mail filters. To further diagnose the problem (which at  
this point is probably not theirs) they need someone on the other side  
of the list server to initiate an email to me. Who can I contact to do  
this? Administrator?
Actually, I had the problem before Apple's recent problematic  
"upgrade". However, due to their recent stability issues they've been  
offering an even higher level of support to help out subscribers that  
are having problems with their new MobileMe service. Seemed like a  
good time to have them tackle this problem and they've been very  
helpful so far. Now if I can just find someone on the other end of the  
list server.

I even got it here in Shanghai, but it's tomorrow. So does that count?  
Also, I frequently got "blacklisted" by the SM list server when I had my
email domain hosted by GoDaddy. I switched to another hosting service and
problems seem to have gone away.

Sometimes the Internet has a mind of its own.
Every e-mail is broken into multiple packets. Headers and footers are added to each packet and then the packet is sent 
through the routers that make up the Internet. The odds are that each packet will be routed through different paths, no 
packet following exactly the same route from the sender to the receiver.
The packets are re-assembled at the final destination and put back into the correct order using the header/footer 
information.
If one particular packet is going through a dirty connection it may have to be resent multiple times before it's fully 
received by the destination computer.
I've received e-mails that were sent three days earlier. There's no guarantee of a quick response. The routers willtry 
for four days to send a message before they give up and send an e-mail back to the sender saying they couldn'tsend the 
message.
Apple has had its own unique problems this past month (including a fire at a building housing some of their servers) 
that has affected the transition from ".mac" to ".me". (For those Windows people on the list,eventually you'll start 
seeing messages from "name" instead of "name". )

Agreed the 'net can be flaky at times, but this has been a consistent problem that I don't have with any other email source that I know of. My first message on this topic took 45 minutes. The second one took 14 hours. A week or two ago it took 3 days. Even with the various delays that can occur due to spam filters, etc, that's too long to be happening consistently without there being a fundamental problem somewhere. (I work in the communications industry so I'm well aware of the technology and potential issues, but even with the occasional slow router or filter, hours or days is just unacceptable.) The long headers indicate that the problem may be at this list server, but I need a little help from an admin to test it for sure.

Just to add to the confusion my domain is hosted by Dream Host also.  
My email have taken up to four days to hit the list. So I am not sure  
you can point at apple or any other single point.

I looked through the long headers too and agree it looks like it's on  
the list server end. How do we get an admin to look into this since it  
appears I'm not the only one experiencing long delays? Is it the same  
as Sweet Maria's primary site? Tom, do you know?

Well, that one took almost a day.
It appears that DreamHost is the source of the problem. Other customers are reporting similar issues on their Discussion Forum. I'm trying to contact their tech support team, so will have to wait to see if they can resolve the problem for me and others.
