At the risk of sounding totally biased (which I am, unabashedly), I tried two roasts of the Liberica and had no positive results whatsoever. I'm now of the opinion that this stuff is totally skunk--perhaps suitable for a bong somewhere in the universe, but damn near sacrilege as what we consider "coffee" in this particular solar system. It is completely rank. Even my colleague at work (who will rave about ten-day-old Peet's as though it's "drinkable") wouldn't take a second sip. "Ya know," he said, "this really sucks."
I couldn't have said it better myself. Stop trying. Spend your time trying to dial in a gesha or the Koratie WP...I guarantee that you'll have a better time trying.
Full of my own opinions,
paul

Paul,
If you have any left, feel free to send it along to me. I'll give it a good
home. My tummy. :-)
Best,

Paul,
We all have our likes and dislikes. I wonder if you roasted it right.
My opinion is this is one of the most awesome coffees ever offered.
It has a fruit bomb beginning with an anise finish that is simply
stunning. If roasted right, the mid level flavors are a cornucopia of
currant and tobacco with hints of peach and apricot. My guess is you
roasted it too dark or too light. This coffee has a fairly narrow
sweet spot. With your opinion of rankness I would say you under
roasted it. First crack on this one doesn't start until about 10
degrees higher than an arabica. This is an awesome unique coffee
experience. Everyone I have served it to commented on the uniqueness
of the coffee and always asked for a second cup. Like my mom always
said growing up, "Paul I am glad you don't like it, it just leaves
more for me!"

It's how you're roasting it. It's a heaven/hell coffee.
