Topic: Gesha Lot 5 (3 msgs / 59 lines)
1) From: Dean De Crisce
Just tried my hand at the Gesha, lot 5. I have lots 10, 5 and 3...but
have been waiting to roast them, because I did not want to ruin them.
I gave lot 5 a shot today. 8oz in the Behmor on 1/2 lb, P3, A. I added
3 minutes after start to total of 15 min. Hit first crack very
vigorously at 3 minutes remaining. I hit cool as first crack was
slowing with 1:30 minutes remaining. Essentially hit C+.
Fired up a double shot immediately. 16-18gm coffee (2 blue SCAA
scoops), 22 sec shot. Interesting, tasted like an Ethiopian...with
citrus, but also some unusual florals and perhaps some mango (sharp
acid). I liked it...but cant say it 'beat' the DP Koratie or Org
Yirgacheffe or the Harrar Horse...more flowery flavors though.
Decided to do an aeropress also. 16-18gm coffee, filled to #3 on the
press, with 4 oz water added after. A more delicate set of similar
flavors...some of the acid bite was removed.
Cant wait to try it again after an overnight rest in the Press. Cheers.

Make sure and keep some out to 5 or 6 days rest so the flavors can fully
develop. Though Gesha similar to a WP Yirg' I find Gesha has much more
character and complexity.
Comparing WP Gesha to DP African is apples and oranges:-)

I really enjoyed lot 5... Definite citrus and after about 5 days,
there was an unmistakable ginger aroma/flavor especially as it
cooled... I thought it got a lot better after day 5. I still have a
pound and a half, I'll have to let the next batch rest longer.
