Weighing in on deer poop: When I lived in Mississippi (until last year),
with a 2-acre yard, deer pooped in the open area of the yard. However, we
never found deer poop in the road. Perhaps this could be considered
supporting evidence of the theory that they poop in an exposed area because
of the ability to detect predators (there was an open field, closer to cover
than the road), rather than some unknown affinity for blacktop. Then again,
perhaps some preference for asphalt rather than our gravel/tar road could
be considered. I know because my dog thinks deer poop is a treat.
Therefore, If Cinnamon spent her time munching in the yard rather than the
road, I assume there was no poop in the road. I did not actually go out to
observe the road for myself, though I did see large amounts of poop in the
yard. But then, taking into consideration the Ďancestral toiletí theor=
y, my
yard was formerly a corn field and cow pasture. Probably generations of
deer also pooped there.

Espresso equipment: I have a Solis Maestro grinder. I also bought a used
Zassenhaus knee-held crank grinder ($13 on eBay) Probably the burrs on both
need changing. Iíve had both for 3 years. The Zassenhaus is adequate for
both my drip pot and my Bialetti Moka pot, as well as being my
hurricane/tornado backup. I did a lot of research on quality, customer
satisfaction, and price before I chose the grinder and my espresso machine.
Iím happy. I have both a Bialetti Moka pot and a Gaggia Espresso Delux
($300, from SM). The only problem I have with my Gaggia is that the pressure
valve tends to leak when the valve gets to be about 6 months old. Taking it
out of the machine to clean it doesnít seem to help. I have some theories
about why that is, but for the moment I just buy a new $10 valve every 6
months or so. I also have an old freebie drip pot from Gevalia that my
husband uses. For drip, I use one of those gold filter one-cup thingys.
When the Gaggia dies, I may upgrade, I may not. I have budgetary
constraints, also, as I have two kids entering college next year as well as
one of those retail hourly jobs. =

To justify my expenses on equipment, I figured out how much I was spending
at the coffee shop per year, how much it would cost for equipment, and how
much for coffee for a year. I amortized the equipment over a year (three
years ago!). The equipment would be paid for, assuming 2 1/2 lattes a week,
in about 6 months. (geez, I didnít calculate milk costs!). =

Completely new comment: I was taught to use the Bialetti by an old Sicilian
(Chief Master Sergeant Gino Conte, AF, retired Ė if that tells you anythi=
ng
about his precision and teaching style) and enjoy using it. He taught me to
add about ľ tsp of sugar to my cup Ė since drinking Tomís coffee, I n=
ow
enjoy my espresso plain, though thereís something nostalgic about adding
Chiefís little bit of sugar. Rather like drinking Maxwell house with lots
of milk and sugar the way my Daddy used to make it for me when Mama wasnít
looking.

Yíall were right Ė Iím loving the Ethiopian coffees. Made the Dale Y=
irga
today as espresso and yum yum yum. Now Iím bouncing off the ceiling. Dar=
n,
the Yemeni is all gone at SM. Iíve got about ľ lb of the Ismaili left,
never got the Mattari.

On Elvis: his method of death was due to (ahem) constipation and high blood
pressure due to habitual drug use. I hesitate using the full medical
explanation. So, drink lots of water and stay off the rec. drugs before
sitting on the pot for extended periods of time? =

Sherrie, great post! 3/4 of the way through, though, you tip your hand...
you were hopped up on Dale Yirga espressos! Ah yes, on some lists there
might be a problem with drunk postings. Here we get really really really
hopped up on caffeine and then post!great post, thanks a bunch. I remember
that you're new, so welcome again. I love ethiopian coffees too!
