Topic: Wednesday Morning Cup (and I'm a Grandma!) (17 msgs / 461 lines)
1) From: Lynne
Ahh - what a blissful cup Ethiopian Sidamo is! (Organic WP, Special
Selection to be exact)
I knew the roast turned out great - I haven't done a 'bean crunch' for
awhile, but this time I tried
one - perfect crunch, light, smooth. Oh, I knew this brew was going ot be a
winner! (thank you, Sheila!!)
Of course, I never plan well enough ahead - this time I have an excuse,
though. I am now a new
grandma to a gorgeous baby boy (Kiernan is my son John's baby boy) - but we
had an emergency,
and the little tyke had to have surgery!! He's fine now - was a minor
surgery (I find it *amazing* what
is done in the medical field today), and he's able to hold done his food
now. Whew!
Now I'm making a second cup, but this time I'm adding about 2/3's decaf -
this is something-Java WP
decaf (the first part of the name is smudged). This roast came out great,
too (thank you, Sandy!) I had
almost given up on my decaf's, because I kept ruining the roasts - then my
regular, caffeinated roasts
came out awful, too.
I'm now wondering if my roasts were fine - it may have been the meds I was
on at the time (for my BP).
Anyway, I'm raising my cuppa to toast the littlest member of our family,
Kiernan, ever so small and angelic!!

Lynne,
congratulations! And thankfully he's healthy. I'll raise my cup right now
as well.
I moka potted some Harar that's about 9 days old. C/C+, way good... the
leathery tobaccoey flavors are now moved into some dark chocolate. Just a
great way to start the day.
Again, congrats.

Thanks, Bill - going off to see him this morning!
Forgot to add that I made both cups in my Chemex. The Sidamo is *so*
chocolately... made it in my FP yesterday - that was great, too.

Congratulations. Kiernan is an interesting name. I'm sure it would be
illegal in Scandinavia or Spain. I hope he will have a long, hyphenated,
last name to drive his teachers nuts.

Congrats on the Birth! I can't even imagine how good it must feel to be a
grand parent. I am in the early throws of parent hood as of now.
Enjoy the coffee. And feel free to indulge in an extra cup.

11) From: Ken B
Congratulations Lynne! I am glad to hear that the young-un is doing okay!
And congratulations on the roasts too. :-) Good coffee is a wonderful
thing!
And thanks for the KMB and biscotti! I have decided the KMB is my new
favorite way to make coffee. Much richer than the Chemex, more bass
than the Yama, but no mud like the FP. I like it a lot. I like it so
much that it travels to work with me. :-) I tried it with the 5 micron
polyester filter, but really couldn't see much of a difference in flavor
over the paper filters, so I guess I am not a paper taster.
Anyway, I am really glad to hear that Kiernan is doing well. Keep
smiling, it makes em wonder what you're up to.

Thank you - *everyone! *
I went in to see my grandson (without calling first) - and he had been
discharged! Since I have no cell, I decided to take the afternoon and just
enjoy myself. Walked all around the Fenway - wow, I haven't done this in a
good thirty years. What a glorious afternoon - I even ended up in front of a
church I thought had been closed down - don't want to sound all gushy here,
but I was able to say a prayer of thanks in a place that was familiar to me
so many years ago.
I returned home exhausted, but happy - and topped off the afternoon with a
cup of my mysterious Java decaf. Delish!

Thanks, Ken - and I'm so glad you like the KMB (although I still insist that
batch of biscotti was not up to my usual. It helps that I take apart my
baking as most here do with their roasting - I know what I did wrong on that
batch, and will improve the next ones. I also plan ahead - I'm getting ready
for holiday biscotti by marinating dried fruit in brandy starting *now... *
mmm).
I'm so happy that my roasts are turning out good once again - think it's
connected with things in my life working out. That little guy has already
been the shining beacon in our lives - it's amazing how much joy he's
brought here!

Here's the meaning:http://babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/meaning_of_Kiernan.htmlThere's an irony here... I'll be posting photos on my Facebook when I get a
chance,
which will explain the irony of his name.

Naw, over here there are so many nationalities, so many different cultures,
that the
unusual is usual. Anyway, his last name(s) is/are very plain and simple.

What a present! What a Blessing.
What a name is Kiernan- Neat. Congratulations, Lynne.
You can imagine what "Opa" means. My Honey, the Celtic Critic, is "Nana."
I just got back, but I, in fact, did Plan ahead- Roasted the Brazil Cerrado
- - Formosa Monday, but we had noted a toasted Hazelnut right out of the
Fresh Roast on an earlier roast.
Aging was not a benefit to this bean, as far as the toasted nuts are
concerned. Caramel, semi sweet Baker's chocolate, maybe some tart fruit as
time rolled on. This whole roast got divided up and frozen. I had two
beautiful doubles this morning- One good shot deserves another...
Cheers, Mabuhay -RayO, aka Opa!
