Topic: First roast of the Koratie DP on a HotTop (5 msgs / 78 lines)
1) From: Ben Lowery
Greetings,
I just got a couple pounds of the DP Koratie and I was wondering if
anyone had recommendations on where to take it, using a HotTop. Just
past the finish of first crack? Anyone with a thermocouple planted in
the bean mass have a good finishing temp?
Thanks,

Use a HG/BM with a TC, so the numbers might be different.
Roasted 9/1: first crack at 400F, 9:30; end of roast 420F, 1255, City roast.
Roasted 9/8: first crack at 400F, 8:55; end of roast 434F, 1255 City+ roast.
The C was great. Tasty, lots of berries, great aroma. Tried the C+ today,
but it was only 2 days rest. Seemed like it would develop well. We'll
see... Tom recommends the C+ roast, so I can't imagine I'll be disappointed.
Hopefully a bit more body at C+ than C.

Kinda quiet on the list... people must have more of a life than me...
Just wanted to report that I drank some of the DP that dropped at 434 today.
It was rested a bit over 3 days, which seems to be the sweet spot for my
roaster... Anyway, the fruit notes were subdued, but not in a bad way... I
think that the descriptor for this type of cup might fall into "jammy." It
was very intense body and very rich, berry-licious. Sorry that I can't
describe the flavors better. Anyway, I like this coffee at both drop temps.
So find what makes you happy!

Thanks for the guidance Bill. I plan on roasting the Koratie DP once my
current supply of Panama runs out... I'll post my results when I have
'em. :)
