Topic: Slow and easy with the Sumatra: Mandheling WP Decaf (2 msgs / 40 lines)
1) From: Paul Helbert
Heads up, Folks,
I got the new crop Sumatra Mandheling WP Decaf to make decaf mokha-Java.
Most all the other current decaf offerings are bright coffees.
This stuff roasts awfully fast. It goes into second crack immediately after
two or three nearly inaudible pops of first; and before you know what
happened. I got my first ever Spanish+ roast today. A blitz of second
cracks, heavy smoke and well rounded oily black beans. Crunch test is like
burnt charcoal.
I only know about the two or three nearly inaudible pops of first from
trying a second roast. They may have been inaudible or covered by
simultaneous eruption of second crack in my first attempt. The second roast
was successfully terminated at the targeted C+.

Paul thanks for the heads up. I have a couple of pounds of that (along with
an Ethiopian Decaf) arriving tomorrow. Thanks a bunch. Hope my
thermocouples will help me navigate the roasts well.bill
