Well, y'all, I'm now a hurricane initiate. No fun.
And, though I remembered the kids, a sewing machine, and a toothbrush, my husband drew the line at the espresso machine, roaster, and coffee. (I enjoy a bit of black humor - no insult or hurt intended to those with major loss). Our house did survive with minor damage (roof, ceiling leaks, door and wet carpet) - the husband is still there in Seabrook (over the bridge from Kemah, 30 minutes from Galveston Island) with the FD doing house to house searches and fixing gas leaks and downed lines. We are in Birmingham AL with my brother - with whom I may share my 3 oz of Guatamala Jose Ocana. Or not.
Note: don't invest in a cheap Moka pot. Just don't. I couldn't find a Bialetti so bought the 'next best' at Central Mkt in Dallas, and it leaks.
Since I have no idea how long I'll be here - though we hope just a week - what advice can y'all give on already-roasted coffee? Can't survive long on the 6 oz of what I have, and my bro drinks flavored stuff. ick.
Like I said, this is my tongue-in-cheek whine - please don't think I'm truly so shallow as to consider going without premium coffee as an emergency.
On the serious side - I was amazed and thrilled to see all the convoys of trucks, both utility and Nat. Guard supply trucks, headed south to Houston as I headed north to Alabama. Actually I started to cry. As well, so many people have donated food and water in the Houston area.
Sher - enjoying the silver lining of a visit to family and friends

Sherrie - send me your address by p.m., and I'll send some roasted coffee to
you.
Glad to hear you're safe - that's the most important thing.

Sherrie,
I have to run up to Birmingham and pick my wife up at the airport
at about 3:00 tomorrow afternoon. I am roasting in the morning
anyway so if it is not inconvenient, I can drop of a pound or so of
what ever I roast in the morning. Or if you let me know your
preferences I can see what I can do to roast something close.
