Topic: I have no idea if this is a deal or not... (2 msgs / 68 lines)
1) From: Tom & Maria - Sweet Maria's Coffee
The mail list rule about links to commercial sites is meant to a. not
turn this into a shopper's info list, i.e. we want to discuss
substantial coffee-related stuff, not become a clearing house for low
price coffee machines ... and b. to support sweet maria's ... or more
correctly, avoid hurting sweetmaria's since we do pay for the server
and traffic for the list. We always figured that there are other
places to go for shopping and comparing prices. That said, my only
reaction to this post was that I wonder about the machine quality,
and how I hate buy.com ... I don't think the post really violates
the list rules since we would never offer a machine like that ... not
that it doesn't have its niche, and is a good machine for some users.
So while that post last week about the cheesy Guatemala coffee was
definitely spamming, and broke the list rules, for me, this topic
doesnt at all. What I prefer though is to discuss the quality of
these machines, not just where they are listed cheap. So John's
reponse is welcome...

Thanks Tom...I appreciate the clarification. I was not trying to do
anything other than let anyone who might be interested know it was
available. I learned a lesson, and will henceforth post only if I KNOW
something, and when it comes to coffee I do not know much, but am trying
to learn. And I think you KNOW I support SM.
It is funny...I had the same issue with Cooks Illustrated that it
appears you do with Buy.com. I do know how frustrating that can be. I
do not know if it changed, but when I stopped the alerts a year ago,
they stopped until I turned them back on a few months ago. I do not
shop there often, but once in a while they offer a really good deal. I
am in no way associated with them. I saw a (supposedly) $500 espresso
machine advertised for under $200 and thought someone on the list might
be interested, and often those 'specials' disappear fairly quickly.
Next time I will think before I leap. :-)
And since you may read this, is there any chance you might branch out a
bit and pick up some decent black pepper to add to the list? You travel
in the same parts of the world that good pepper is grown in, and I would
love to have a convenient place to get Lampong from Sumatra or Malabar
from India, or even Indian Tellicherry or Talamanca Del Caribe from
Ecuador. I know you are a coffee guy, but if nobody asks, you might not
know there is a (granted fairly small) market for it.
Best regards,
Ken B
