Topic: New excuse for late delivery (16 msgs / 340 lines)
1) From: Mike Chester
I placed an order with SM last Monday and used the shipping special. UPS Ground is always slow to here, but I am not in a big hurry so it did not matter that the delivery was not scheduled until today. When it did not arrive, I checked the tracking information and saw a new excuse for late delivery.
I wonder what kind of shape it will be in when it arrives.

At least they had a code in their system for Train Derailment. It seems
like UPS is prepared for anything!

Unless you are either the shipper or receiver, UPS will not show that
data. This is done for someones protection. So, what is their latest
excuse?

In June of this year I had an Amazon order shipped to my sister's
house in Michigan. The estimated delivery date was June 27, actual
delivery date was July 1, with the delay attributed to floods. I don't
have the tracking any more, and I can't remember where the flood was,
but I want to think it was in Iowa or Illinois. I wish now I would
have saved that page.

I had a package once make its way to Texas and was listed as out-for-
delivery, then the next day it was in transit again and made it back
to California and was delivered. Seemed no worse for its trip around
the country

I tried to ship a package UPS from southern California to Houston, Texas, once. It was a set of manuals for a meeting
and was sent a week ahead of time. When it didn't arrive, I checked and the on-line message said the same thing -
trainderailment.
I told them the package was too late and they should just ship it back to me. I got it a week later, with no chargefor
failed delivery.

I thought this was kind of spurious--the local news outlets around
here would definitely have mentioned a freight train derailment.

I saw it no problem... I thought anyone could type in their tracking
number and see the status?!?
And yes I think Train derailment is classic.....next it will be train
delayed due to lack of coffee

I had one some time back that had out for delivery but it actually got sent
to a transfer station that it came through to get to me to start with. I
called and told them that they didn't deliver it or put a notice of
attempted delivery on the door. They looked it up and said that it was a
mistake that it was out for delivery when it accidentally was sent half way
back to the shipper, was caught there and shipped back. I think I got it
about 3 days later than the original delivery date was supposed to be.

I don't know, it seems to me that trains fall off the tracks quite
frequently. Several recent ones come up in a Google News search. Was
this in the Illinois area? Here is one that may pertain:
Train derailment in Champaign blocks traffic
Chicago Tribune, United States - Sep 8, 2008
AP CHAMPAIGN - Officials say a train derailment in Champaign will
continue to block traffic all day. Seven cars came off the Canadian
National Railway ...
