Anyone out there have experience with a Salvatore espresso machine? I just picked one up at, where else, my favorite thrift store. I haven't even plugged it in yet and my heart is still racing from that rush of adrenaline when I saw it sitting there in the store, just waiting for me to take it home. I'm not sure what model it is - I don't see one exactly like it on the Salvatore web page. Unfortunately it wasn't on the $1.99 shelf, so I had to shell out a whopping $10. Now the cleaning and tinkering begins...

Wow, that's a score. He's in Solvang CA, the machine has a 6 year
warranty and they are supposed to be really nice well made Hx machines.

I just got off the phone with the company and found out this machine is 14 years old. No power when I plug it in, so hopefully it's just a switch problem. Time to get out the tools.

Yeah, same here, the best I have ever seen is a Krups steam toy, which
I forgot to mention a couple weeks ago when I was mentioning the
coffee stuff that I bought but haven't used yet. I sure envy people
who live in coffee country and see these things in thrift stores!
Kris, can you remind us of where you live? And, when you bought the
machine, did the people in the store seem to have any idea what it
was?

Brian,
Don't envy. Use that energy to visualize owning/using the thing you
want... and then get out of the way :-)
I have gotten great scores from thrift shops and that's how it's done...

I'm surprised it ever made it out of the backroom onto the floor! They
are a well built machine. Please email me if you decide not to keep it
;-).
enjoy,

I am amazed that the Salvatore machine got there too, but I shouldn't be after all the amazing things I've found there. My husband now says that all I have to do is think about something I want and it starts making it's way to the thrift store. Some of you may remember that I've also gotten two Chemex pots, a La Pavoni Europiccola, Mazzer Super Jolly and Rossi RR45 at this same store. That doesn't even include all the roasting equipment and other various brewing devices. It's not like walking in to a coffee equipment warehouse by any means, but I visit the store on average 5 days a week.
I've had a little time to play with the Salvatore now. It works - as in the boiler heats up and the pump runs - but I don't know how to operate it yet. It's quite different from my Gaggia and Pavoni machines. I sent an email to the company and hopefully I'll get to talk to Salvatore himself tomorrow. I'm willing to make the 180 mile drive up to Solvang for parts and repairs if necessary.
I knew that there would be an excellent espresso machine waiting for me at the thrift store one day, but I wasn't expecting it today. You just never know...
