1) From: Ken Schillinger
For reasons I can't quite comprehend I decided to use up all of the "store
bought" coffee I had laying around. OK I do understand; I hate waste. It
wasn't all bad; some of it was the coffee I brought back from Costa Rica,
vacuum wrapped and stored in the freezer. Then there was the roasted coffee
beans from Costco which aren't bad as far as store bought goes, and some
other %^&*$ I had laying around. Mission accomplished, I strode purposely to
my Behmor and roasted a pound of Ethiopian Harare to just into the 2nd crack
(nailed the roast as far as I am concerned). Even without resting it's
better than any of the other stuff I have been drinking the last month or
so. While I was sipping on a cup and making happy noises, I sent in an order
for several pounds of beans and a hot pot. I'm planning on putting away my
Krups coffee maker and going back to a Milita funnel. All I can say is that
I'm damn glad to be back roasting, and drinking good coffee.
Ken

Oh man! Sounds painful. Makes homeroast all the more appreciated,
methinks. I don't think I could do that. I'd find a way to give it away.
Last spring I subjected myself to two weeks of on-the-road coffee. After I
returned, my homeroast never tasted so good. Next trip, I take my
coffee-fix'ns with me!
BTW, we're quasi-neighbors. I'm East of Everett.

I'm against waste too but I'm not a masochist, life's too short to drink bad
coffee.
(Hating the thought of waste as I toss about 20LB remaining from a bag of
Yirg' Kochere WP sourced early this year that has faded too far...)
I'm not a sadist either, life's too short to 'serve' bad coffee! (and not
good for business reputation...)

Ken,
You have nailed the reason that I stopped drinking coffee a long time
ago. I drink homeroast. It isn't the same beverage. Now places like
Mike McKoffee's and Stumptown and Blue Bottle and a few others have
moved homeroast into a commercial environment, but it isn't the swill
that is sold at the store as coffee. Speaking of homeroast. I nailed
both the DP and WP Ethiopia Koratie. I sure am glad I bought twice as
much of the WP. Wow is all I can say! Well here is how much WOW it
has! In my opinion this is a richer cup than the Gehsa lot 2. Look
at Tom's cupping score, a whopping 94.5. Too bad he is out of this
coffee. This coffee has had 5 days rest. The DP was good. However
what was left went in the care package to my daughter and son-in-law.
I am looking forward to another one of these gems from Tom.

Yep, 5 days of crap at Notre Dame in June and 3 weeks of utter and complete
dreck in Australia in July. Never happen again. In the future it's gonna
be Billbucks or nothing. Oh yeah, Billbucks is what some of my friends call
my homeroast to tease me. Of course, they don't turn it down when it's
offered...bill

Hi Bob,
East of Everett covers a bit of ground. Lets see; Snohomish, Lake Stevens,
Goldbar, Startup, Leavenworth... :-)
I always take coffee and something to make it in when I go anywhere for more
than a day or two.
Ken.

Yes indeed. Most of the country, in fact, is East of Everett. I meant to
say "just" East of Everett.
