Topic: New name for Ohana (25 msgs / 665 lines)
1) From: Mike Chester
<Snip>
Another possibility would be to name it using part of your real name -
Ginness - though that may sound too much like the thin burnt beer, which is
the opposite of what you want to portray. Ginness 6 might sound like a
group of political prisoners. (Free the Ginness 6)
I like the idea of a contest and I think you will get a lot of suggestions.

I may have overlooked the obvious answer in my sigtag, Nirvana Blend or
Nirvana's Quest Blend. Leaning towards the later since the former may imply
attainment. Pretty much decided not to use "6" in the name since there is no
guarantee it'll always be a 6 bean blend to achieve the same target taste
profile.
FWIW if I choose a name suggested by a Lister they'll receive an LB of the
latest incarnation.

Burnt beer? Interesting how different people look at the same
item. For me Guinness is smooth, thick, rich and creamy. Just what
you want to portray in a good espresso. Sure, it has roasted malts,
but it is well balanced with a moderate hop level and
sweetness. Again, a perfect match IMO. Hell, pulled into a clear
glass (so you can see it), a good pull even cascades like a pull of Guinness.

As much as I've abused the Carpeso Leaks, it sure cranks out the Reddish
Gold emulsion! It usually doesn't start settling out to reddish brown before
halfway through the brewski cycle. Should have been intuitive that the
pressure relief was not a functional component.
At least the Bodum Assam puts on quite a show, as does the similarly shaped
glass cup with a wire frame.
Admire the show; admire the flavor- this morning's Costa Rica at City roast

I have never been to Ireland so I can't comment on what Guinness tastes like
there, but I have had Guinness on tap here and I find it to be pleasant -
much better than bottled. I really did not mean my comments as a put down.
For all of its color, Guinness is a light bodied beer and it is classified
that way by beer experts. . It uses black malt which to me is like SB
roast in coffee. Most of the malt flavor is burned out of it and all that
is left is the charcoal flavor. With the proper mix of nitrogen and co2,
the draft version can get a creamy texture that I like on rare occasions.

Based on carbs and alcohol content, Guiness is on a par with Bud or Coors
light. You won't find a lighter beer even though it is dark in color. BJCP
classifies it as a dry stout, both here and on the continent. I think you
are right that the texture from the nitrogen push and the hint of dark
flavors from the maillard rxn make this an enjoyable beer on rare occasions
when I want a light beer.
But isn't this getting off (coffee) topic?

miKe,
Here are a couple more suggestions:
Quest - because you are on a constant quest for perfection, but will never arrive.
An alternate spelling would be Kwest - if you want to stay with the K theme of Koffee Kafe.
Along those same lines, for your decaf blend - Dreams or Dreamz.

Thanks Tom, how apropos and speaks to my soul. Ohana Blend well may become
Brighid's Blend:
Charge of the Goddess Brighid
I know you hear my voice. Many a night you have cried my tears,
I am the one who has been with you all these years.
It is my song you sang,
A hymn to a goddess long before you knew a goddess walked your dreams and
path.
Brighid mother, Brighid guardian
Brighid mother, Brighid guardian
Walk with me and let me hold your hand you know the words you sing my poems.
Mother Brighid, Brighid guardian
Poetess of our dreams walk with me,
I teach you the same songs sung of old,
The message and the melody stay the same. I am the one who sings the songs
that give man hope,
I am the voice of poetry singing in your dreams.
Deep in the night, When the moon is full,
Deep in a circle, Voice chant my songs,
Do you hear their voices, Calling to me?
I am the mother, the maiden, the Crone
Of all poets and poetry,
My gift is the poems that weave spells around the hearts of men and give his
dreams flight,
Raise your voices and chant.
Mother Brighid, Brighid Guardian.
Do you hear my singing, Child?
It is my blessings that are granted to all but understood by so few.
It is my poems that will reduce you to tears like a child or make you soar
among the clouds,
I am the poetess and guardian,
Call on me and listen to hear my voice.

Since you've got me thinking of poems, my favorite was "The Road Less
Traveled" by Frost. Since your coffee is certainly a finer and rarer item
than big chain coffee, how about "Road Less Traveled Blend" or RLT Blend,
for short.

That is a _great_ name, I wouldn't change it. I always try to market
with names that people will remember, and yours is definitely one of
them. It sets you apart from the "normal" names you always see. It
should prove to be an advantage to you over the years.
