Oh my gosh, you guys! I'm psyched! I was sitting here checking my email
when I heard a high-pitched sound, like a Kris Dog Whistle. Then I opened
my RSS reader and saw a post on SM's weblog http://sweetmarias.com/weblog/)about new beans available. A new DP Guatemalan that's a chocolate-covered
fruit bomb?! A sure hit for lover's of the Anokhi?! I. can't. wait! I
ordered 5 lbs immediately.
Just FYI. Best,
Kris McN

Great photo-log of a cupping with a bunch of Costa Rican micro-millers.
Linked off the blog, but here it is:http://www.sweetmarias.com/costa_rica_micromillers_visit/index.htmlThanks for the heads-up Kris. That Guat looks pretty intriguing! I think I
need to consume some more coffees however from my own stash!!!

Crap. And I just ordered last week. Looks like I might have to give in
to temptation and expand my stash size beyond my self-imposed limit. I
think I can come up with a justification though. I've started drinking
decaf in the afternoons/evenings (so I can drink more coffee without
losing sleep :-) ). Past couple of days I've been drinking decaf
Huehuetenango, and I can say without reservation that it's the best
decaf I've ever had. If it weren't for the absence of pharmacological
effect, I wouldn't know it was a decaf. So I was thinking of getting 5
more pounds of that anyway...

Dave,
I noticed you had a good roast experience with decaf Huehuetenango. I've
done one roast with a GC and was less than satisfied. It may just be the
roast profile I used. What did you use and what kind a profile did you get
you best cup?
Thanks,
Jeff

I roast with a heat gun. Unfortunately I didn't record any data. So
far I've roasted a single 8oz batch. If I recall correctly I roasted
it to C+ or maybe a bit darker, and hit first crack at about 9min.
Sorry I can't be more specific. (You've got me feeling uneasy now.
What if it has a narrow sweet spot, and I'm not able to hit it again.
I really should start keeping a roasting log...)

I roast with HG/DB too. Have roasted about 9# of the Huehuetenango decaf.
I typically roast 3/4# at a time. I get raves about this coffee when I take
it to 1st crack at about 7 minutes, then slow the roast down until about 12
minutes, then increase the heat (decrease distance in my case) and stop it
after about 10 seconds of a rolling 2nd crack at about 14-15 minutes. It's
a great coffee! I'm almost out and plan to buy some more (if I get my order
in on time).
