And a special thanks miKe, who generously donated a pound to be used
as a doorprize -- we're still figuring out just how it will be awarded.

You didn't like my idea of the Deconstruction Challenge:-)
Determine Ohana bean elements. (I've talked about it on list so good chance
someone or someones would get it right. And a hint, recently changed one of
the elements!)
Tiebreaker: percentage of each element.
Tiebreaker 2: roast profile of each element.
Have a great time next weekend!
miKe

To be honest, I think we'd all flunk terribly -- but that doesn't mean
we won't try it :-)

Maria (of Sweet Maria's) is graciously sending some stuff in the box with my
recent order to help make our event more interesting. I won't know exactly
what she is sending until it gets here. She mentioned a soccer ball which
made me think of having a walnut related activity of some sort. (Same
shape). The black walnuts have been bombarding us heavily for several weeks.
We had our first frost last night so the rest may be down by the weekend.
I'll see if I can find a blow log for the fire.

Well we did it. Allon Stearn came from the farthest and brought the most
stuff. Since he was the only person to come from far away, and since it
rained all Saturday morning he got to sleep in a bed instead of in his tent.
For me the biggest surprise was the sugary sweetness of one of the shots of
miKe McKoffee's Ohana espresso as it cooled. We drank a lot of coffee and a
lot of espresso and some decaf but that was the one which really sang out.
By the end of the weekend we had sampled four or five espresso blends, half
a dozen single origin coffees and demonstrated several roasting methods
including Allon's single bean roast. We did not brew the single bean, nor
the Goo Goo Muck which I refused to allow to be run through my grinder. We
couldn't agree on the best brewing method for the single bean.
Troy and Jenica Lucas won the pound of Ohana. Sweet Maria's contibuted a
couple of their cupping spoon tee shirts and a scoccer ball for door prizes.
Terry & Sylvia Beitzel won a glass coffee carafe which matches the Chemex
they had gotten a year ago as a wedding present. Shawn & Cathy Moorman and
their three girls went home with the scoccer ball. Allon Stearn and Sharon
Helbert drew the tickets for the tee shits.
See the link for photos:http://paul.helbert.googlepages.com/midatlantichomeroaster'sgatheringIt was a plaeasure hoasting this event, but it will be someone else's turn
to do it next time. This thing needs to rotate.

Looks like a fun time. Thanks for sharing the pictures!
I've been to a gathering in the ATL area in the past, and hope to sometime
join folks at another one in the future.
cheers,
Scott
