A friend of mine is going to Nicaragua and is interested in bringing
back some green beans for me to roast. She asked me how she is to
determine what good beans look like. Knowing that she will not cup the
coffees, I told her to inspect the beans for uniformity of color and to
watch out for signs of mildew or other irregularities. Did I miss
anything? Smell?

If she is near you let her see, feel and smell some good beans. Nicaragua or centrals if possible. If she knows what good is like, she will probably recognize bad if she sees it.
