Topic: Coffee in the cold... (12 msgs / 293 lines)
1) From: Sean Cary
Knucklehead UPS driver left my $80.00 worth of coffee at the wrong
house...which sat on their front porch overnight. Got down into the 30's
last night here.
Anyone have issues with the greens going below freezing for short periods?
first time and last time I am using UPS with SM. I have had 100% success
with USPS over the last 3 + years, even to Iraq. But UPS gets it once and
goofs it up.
Just wondering how I should proceed.

I just roasted a pound of Italian blend that froze a few times; I forgot
them in the back porch. They're chocolatey and delicious three days in. I
think they'll probably be fine.

Many people freeze their greens for long term storage, so the freezing
should not cause a problem. Just make sure that hey are at room temp before
opening the bags, to prevent condensation from forming on the colds beans.

4) From: Wes Tyler
Sean..I doubt they froze if they weren't exposed to a hard freeze(below 26 for more than 4 hrs). A porch or anything close to the mass of a house usually keeps the temp up from what's measured in the open. Might lessen how long they would keep before roasted, but I would doubt it.
I agree on UPS but DHL was worse. USPS works best for me in GA.
Merry Christmas, wes

My guess is that cold is better than heat. I would think that as long
as there is no condensation you should be fine.

Eh, mistakes happen with any company. My UPS driver is a nice guy: I
leave a 1/2 lb bag of fresh roast for him on the porch when I know
he'll be dropping off a package that day.
He makes sure my stuff is delivered to the right address :-)

they were middle of the stack of boxes on his porch and when I opened
them...they were cold but not frozen
They will be gone in 3 months or so, not going to sweat it I guess.
Hate bad service!
