We have 3 cats... 2 Siamese and an orange polecat-type rescue kitty.
Max the Meezer loves the gurgling noises of the different brewers,
especially my finacee's Cuisinart Brew Central. He sits and stares at
the brewer in the mornings.
The other Siamese, Maggie Fitzgerald, bats stray beans around on the
tile floor, but doesn't seem interested in eating them.
Gustav Schmitz, the orange yard cat, used to love it when I was HG/DB
roasting. Tugging on the HG cord was his favorite thing.
These are all young cats with plenty of energy and certainly don't
need any additional energy from caffeine.
cheers,
Scott

Hi Carol and Everyone
I had an interesting ( albeit sad) experience here wth an animal =
( raccoon to be specific) I roasted some coffee for my younger =
brother and left it out for him to pick up at my home the next =
morning on his way to work. When I checked to see if he got the =
package I found coffee grounds on the driveway and a few days later a =
dead raccoon next to my fish pond.
Upon investigation I found a trail of coffee leading to the pond =
and the deceased animal. I did some research on the net and found =
that coffee can be toxic to animals!!! I would be very careful with =
my beloved pets in the future.

Coffee is one of the few things my dogs aren't tempted to taste. Afghans a=

deerhounds both have turned up their noses, metaphorically speaking. They
don't seem to like the smell of roasting either and usually make themselves
scarce during that time.

i've worried about this myself. i work at an emerg animal hosp and we've seen a number of coffee toxicity dogs. the coffee beans themselves seem to be toxic and cannot be digested properly. so when i've roasted my dog has wondered onto the side poarch, sniffed and even licked a few a few beans (roasted and unroasted) and then promptly spit them back out. which makes me wonder, do only certain dogs like only certain beans?? thought to ponder.

I have a long-haired chihuahua who likes to come outside while or after I
roast to lick up the chaff. I am guessing it isn't good for her, but it is
hard to get rid of all the chaff. She'll eat the roasted beans too.

My own dog has shown no interest in roasting or coffee, which based on what
I'm reading here, is a good thing.

Our bluetick coonhound will eat roasted beans. I tend to shake some out as
I'm roasting in my SCTO and he'll wander over and munch the occasional
roasted bean. Everynow and then he'll get one that's still hot and he'll
spit it out and wait for it to cool. It's funny because most stuff (think
treats, dinner, etc) he doesn't bother chewing, but coffee beans get special
attention. He shows no other interest in coffee.

I offered a roasted Colombia "Perros Bravos de Huila " bean to my 3

I'd say the toxicity with coffee, like chocolate, is less with a large dog,
so fortunately, a Great Pyrenees has less chance of being poisoned, than
say, a chihuahua. Obviously dogs are like us - they'll eat stuff that could
kill them.
My Border Collie, Emma, will eat anything. I'm constantly watching her, and
although I'm so very careful, and she's not as bad as she was before, she'll
still get into stuff occasionally. Been awhile since she ate the entire -
yes, entire - very spicy, (I used just about every seasoning I had) pulled
pork roast, or the huge loaf of ciabatta bread from the counter, or the
numerous other food items I thought were way beyond her reach, lol. She
survived, although I swear my hair turned totally white under my
Clairol's...
I started keeping all three of my dogs (the other two couldn't care less)
out of the room while I roast, since originally I was concerned that the
smoke was triggering her seizures. (which are now under control with a very
low-dose of phenobarbital) But I still keep them out while I roast, just as
a precaution. (My landlord, however, has complained about the smell from the
smoke, so I try to roast when I think he might be out).
My older dog, Shiloh, does know whenever I take cheese out of the
refrigerator. He seldom begs (don't know if he has more manners, or he's
just too tired and arthritic to beg), but if I take a package of cheese out,
whether it's Cabot cheddar or some bargain American (yuk), whether it's in
the original package or a soft plastic bag - he knows, and he's at my side!
I still can't figure out how he knows - especially when he's in another
room.

Carol -
My kids are older, but I've got one who would still do that with those
bubbles - and he's
25! Ha - there's something so tempting about those things, and with his
ADHD, they are
really irresistible...
My oldest dog, Shiloh, is a gem - we often speculate what breeds are in his
heritage. I've
often thought that he has some Gr. Pyr - and after reading your this, I'm
more convinced!
Shiloh is extremely intelligent (def has some Border Collie in him, but at
75 lbs, we know
there's more), but he has exactly the same attitude.
And to get this back on topic - my very first homeroasted coffee that stood
out beyond the
rest was from Bolivia. Forgot the name, but my daughter and I used to say
the name with
the same vocal infliction as though we were talking about a dreamy movie
star. Hehe...
Ahhh... *Bolivia!!*
