Brewtus is up and running again. I must commend Ira to the list. He
diagnosed the problem over the phone from LA. He knew it was not the
controller but rather the temperature probe from the controller to the brew
boiler. Sure enough on closer inspection I found a short in the wire. Some
simple splicing and shrink insulation and I am back up and running. Moka pot
is a poor substitute for good espresso. Again thanks to Ira. He seems not
only to be able to work out programs for the Behmor but has ESP to figure
out how to diagnose a problem 2600 miles away.

Well, thanks!
He did forget to mention he sent me the supposedly "broken"
controller to look at and since it seemed to be working correctly I
took what seemed to be the next most likely guess.

One clue: the Brewtus doesn't necessarily have a thermocouple as its
temperature sensor, but if it does and the digital readout just indicated a
low number like room temperature, it's a cinch the leadwire has been abraded
passing through some sharp hardware like an ungrommeted hole.
Wherever the wires short together or short to a common piece of metal is
your new measuring junction. Not quite as hot as the process of interest...
If you have an RTD, you're likely to read Zero or Overscale.
Something caused the short- it wasn't shorted originally.
