Topic: Tom - Coffee plant's question? (3 msgs / 79 lines)
1) From: Michael Vanecek
I tried to send this to your personal addy but it was returned
undeliverable - any problems with sweetmarias? That's
your return addy in your messages here. Anyway...
I have your Red Catuai (sp?) from seed you sent me, and some Kona. My
cat has seen fit to remove the labels tho so I'm at a loss for
identification. I've noticed that some of my trees have baby leaves that
are the greenish-reddish hue, and others are just a green hue. I'm under
the impression that the Kona has the reddish hue on the baby leaves but
can't find any reference for the Red Catuai - are their baby leaves green?
Be well,
Mike

Catuai will have the "bronze tips" ie that reddish tint to the new
leaves. I know how you feel, when I lose a tag on a plant it is awful
because some are very difficult to identify. I now use metal tags
wrapped around a branch with ss wire, so I won't lose the ID of a
plant anymore.
By the way, SM is open for a mere 2 days between the holidays, in
case you didn't see the hours on the web site. So we are trying to
get as many orders out as possible, and deal with as many issues as
we can within this short amount of time.

Thanks! Well, I've got Kona from Smithfarms and the Red Catuai (Cataui
Roho) from seeds you sent me a couple years ago. Now I've got two
distinct colors on the young leaves - the bronze tip and the green tip.
I've never really paid much attention to the new leaves before - I'll
have to get some fresh Kona going and see - they're from 70+ year old
trees tho - so perhaps they may not be the Guatemalan Typica? Anyone
else still growing the Cataui Roho from Tom's seed distribution? A
comparison would be nice.
Hope you had a nice Christmas, Tom. No doubt up to your neck in coffee...
Be well,
Mike
