All,
With the new one gracing our presence, I've moved away from the
electric mill to the Zass, and consequently, the AP. Enjoying them
both. One question I have, though, is where to apply a bit of veggie
oil to alleviate the annoying squeaking while grinding. I know it's
somewhere on the shaft, but not sure where to go from there.
Anyone else tackled this on?
Jason

The squeaking happens at the upper bushing/collar below the crank. If
your zass is an older one you may have a bit of corrosion/rust on that
part of the shaft and bushing. If newer it may just be dry. You can
take it apart(can help tell you how if you can show a picture or give
a model # because different model disassemble differently) if rusty
and clean the area(on shaft and inside bushing) with fine steel wool.
Or just try dripping a drop of mineral oil from the top of the
bushing. If you have some corrosion it's worth cleaning and lubing
because too much wear in that spot will eventually cause some wobble
that will effect grind quality especially for fine espresso
grind.Veggie oil will get gummy and turn rancid. Dow 111 lube is a
great food grade multi-purpose lube.
happy new year,
Ed

Thanks Ed. Mine is a 156, about 3 years old. Purchased from our hosts.
I'll look at disassembling it to apply some mineral oil - we have that
on hand.
Thanks,
Jason

Since it's newer you an probably just drip a drop down from top while
turning crank to spread around.
