Thanks to everyone for your blend name suggestions. There were several very good names suggested, but I had to choose one. The name that best expresses the whole naming incident is (drum roll) "D'OH' Imagine me with the heel of my hand against my forehead exclaiming D'oh.
This name was summated by Michael Holland and by Sandy Andina. Both submissions were made within a few minutes of each other and both arrived in the same batch of email. Since they were too close to call, I will award prizes to both. Please send me your snail mail addresses off list and I will send the coffee when I am satisfied with the blend. Now the bad part - I don't feel that the blend is ready for prime time yet, so it will be awhile before I send it out, but I promise that it will be sent. The extreme cold that we have had has affected my roast profiles. Usually the computer can compensate for changes in atmospheric conditions, but it has been so cold and windy as to entirely change the thermodynamics of my roaster. A bottle of water that I was drinking while roasting a batch froze during the 20 some minutes that the process took. My data logging shows that to achieve the same bean temp required substantially higher air temp inside the roaster than normal. I w
ill either move it to the basement or buy a garage heater soon. Today is about 30, so I should be able to roast some of the new Tree Dried Brazil and some of the Black Sun. I think they will add something to the taste.
Referring to a different thread, by last cup of 2008 was and Americano of Mountain Thunder Kona, and my first cup of 2009 was an Americano of Panama Gesha Lot 5.
