you will not regret roasting your own as you can see and taste the
difference having tried your friends home roast.
My first roaster was a CafeRoasto and have had it about 6 years, after an
article in the WSJ reviewed roasters a long time ago. it was underpowered
and required careful cleaning of the screen that took some of the hot air
back into the heating element to get the coffee to the correct temp. but it
served me well w the addition of a long probe thermometer to keep track of
the bean temp.
I now have a iRoast 2
I love it and have recently added the digital temp probe offered by T&M.
you will enjoy the iRoast2 as is if you keep a carefull eye on the color of
the beans. then after you get into it you can consider adding the probe.
you will not regret getting this roaster
the selection of green beans at SM is outstanding and their coffee
university is well worth paying attention to.
then you need a better grinder. the entry level Solis Maestro is a fine
start.
good luck. such fun for such a good cup in the AM
cheers
