Topic: COE @ Target (12 msgs / 224 lines)
1) From: Edward Bourgeois
I heard someone say they had seen COE coffee at a Target store.Target
tried to buy the Guatemala first place lot but Tom and friends outbid
them. But they did get the 2nd and third place lots. So I checked it
out and there it was. In 10oz. valve bags in a metal tea type can for
$14.99. They're branded under the Archer Farms Target brand. Since the
2nd place lot went for $17.05/lb and with roasting weight loss they
are not making much on them. They had a use by date of 8/05/09. the
roast level diagram on the bag had it about a quarter of the way
between light and dark. I didn't tear open a bag or buy one.

I live in Chicago and the Target I go to has a Starbucks in it. Maybe they
should start buying their beans from Target and I would reconsider getting
coffee there!!! LOL

Ed,
Which Target did you see it at? I've wasted $15 on worse things. :)

Kinda like the 100% Kona coffee a friend picked up at the local Costco.
I grabbed a bag just to see how bad it was. It does state 100% Kona
(not a blend) but when I opened the bag was met with Charbucks-style
roasting; black and oily.

I saw the same thing at a Target in Arizona while visiting my dad over the
holidays.
At the SCAA conference last year that had a pretty big booth which was
surprising, but when I saw their "specialty" coffees in the store, I sort of
figured out what they were trying to do:http://flickr.com/photos/brz/2468432948/in/set-72157604900085755/I suppose this stuff is probably an upgrade from what they used to offer,
but the fact that there is no way they can sell fresh coffee across all
their stores makes it an impossibility that Target will be a true specialty
coffee retailer (assuming they are roasting it nicely). Like I always tell
my friends, coffee just doesn't scale that well.

If you can find it at Target, the E probably stands for "Execrable."
So far, "Chinese Coffee" is just a play. -ro

I actually felt really bad seeing those cans of great coffee sitting
on a Target shelf going really stale. In my book a felony!

I thought of that too. I wonder how much of the good coffee in the
world goes stale before it gets to slap some taste buds around?

I don't care how well they're roasting it, if that shelf isn't a freezer the
coffee's dead within a month. Best if used by 8 months later my arse...as
bad as Charbucks!
It's a crime against the Coffee Gods top COE coffees being treated so badly.

[Is the *$ still open?]
OK- just because it's cold in Chicago doesn't mean it's going to be cold
enough in the Place of Fabled Heat to cause Yours Truly to venture in for
their Coffeelike compounds.
They also handle Ethylene Glycol antifreeze, engine oil, bug spray and Cat
litter.
Still considering their "coffee?"
